Rural Japan in May

The Shimanami Kaido

Passing through Shikoku on the Shimanami Kaido bike path back in 2015, before it was famous, on a private trip with a family of three on a one month journey across Kyushu, Shikoku and Southern Honshu.

I only had my old cell phone for photos, so excuse the quality.

Cherry Blossoms on the Farm

Cherry blossom season is a bit different for farmers.

While the office workers in Tokyo are perhaps taking an afternoon off to drink under the trees in the park, for the farmers in rural Japan, this is one of the busiest seasons of the year – preparing the fields for planting.

Meanwhile, others are busy collecting wild fukinoto.
